Visa exemptions

The following are exempted from Mauritian Visa Regulations:

1. Citizens of Mauritius;
2. Persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration Act;
3. The Spouse of a citizen of Mauritius;
4. The child or stepchild or lawfully adopted child of citizens of Mauritius or persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration Act;
5. Holders of Diplomatic Passports other than those issued by the Government of Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Libya, Palestine State, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen;
6. Crew of a vessel travelling on duty or in transit to join another vessel;
7. Holders of Laissez-passer issued by the United Nations, COMESA, SADC or other internationally recognised organisations;
8. Holders of passport issued by the INTERPOL who come to Mauritius on official mission;
9. Holders of Laissez-passer issued by the African Reinsurance Corporation and the African Development Bank Group in Respect of their directors, officers or employees travelling to Mauritius on official mission;
10. Holders of passport issued by Governments of countries belonging to the European Union; and
11. Persons who intend to remain in Mauritius only during the stay of a vessel by which they arrive and depart.

Documents required for a visa application

When applying for a visa, you need to submit the following documents:

• A completed visa application form, signed by you.
  (Download the Application Form from the Passport and Immigration Office Website)
• Two recent passport-sized photos of yourself.
• A photocopy of the data pages of your passport.
• If you are not residing in your country of origin, you must provide a copy of your Residence Permit, which should be valid for at least three months beyond your proposed departure date from Mauritius.
• A copy of your ticket to your country of origin or residence.
• A copy of your bank statement for the last three months.
• Proof of hotel accommodation during your stay in Mauritius.
• If you are sponsored by a Mauritian citizen for accommodation, you need to provide evidence of sponsorship, a copy of the sponsor's ID, and proof of address.
• For a business visa, include a letter from your local sponsor or company.
• If you are a minor (under 18 years old), provide a consent letter from your parents, a copy of your birth certificate, and copies of your parents' passports.
• Any additional documents requested by the Passport and Immigration Office.

Note:

• Visas are issued, to the extent possible, within five (5) working days, subject to the submission of complete application requirements.
• You are requested to apply at least one month prior to their travel.
• A visa does not guarantee admission into Mauritius. The final decision to admit a passenger rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry in Mauritius.
• You should wait for the outcome of your application before undertaking any travel to Mauritius.

How to apply for a Mauritian visa

To apply for a visa for Mauritius, follow these steps:

• Diplomatic / Consulate Representatives:
  If your country has Diplomatic or Consulate Representatives for Mauritius, you should submit your visa application through them. View contact information of Mauritian Embassies & Consulates Worldwide.

• No Representatives:
  If there are no Diplomatic or Consulate Representatives in your country, you can submit your application at the nearest Air Mauritius office.
   
• No Offices:
  If neither of the above options is available, you can send your application by email to piovisa@govmu.org.
